Preamble and definition

The European Music Therapy Confederation has an obligation to protect the interests of the profession and the public it serves, by ensuring that the profession functions at an appropriate level of training and practice. The EMTC is committed to creating compatibility and independence of professional practice in music therapy across Europe.
An immediate aim is to establish a European Register of Music Therapy. This will ensure that music therapists are trained to the EMTC standards and will promote the mobility of professional music therapists within Europe.

History of the EMTR
The EMTR Bologna agreement (2005) charged the Commission with the task to make the EMTR operational. For this purpose, the EMTR Commission met every year at the General Assembly (GA). The Commission also met for 2 days in 2008 (Donegal, Ireland) and in 2010 (Bremen, Germany). The GA was informed of the progress of the Commission work, documents were sent to the GA members, and discussion and feedback were invited. A document showing the entire process of the EMTR Commission work (from 2003 and onwards) was also sent to the GA members.

In Bremen, the Commission finalized the operational administration of the EMTR. This included documents for Application Form, Website Management and structure, Funding/Costing, and the database of the Register.
