Job Description: Ethics Committee Member
The Ethics Committee of the European Music Therapy Confederation (EMTC) is responsible for upholding and promoting ethical standards within the music therapy profession across its member associations. The Committee ensures that member organisations adhere to the EMTC Code of Ethics and that professional conduct aligns with best practice, relevant legal requirements, and the integrity of the field.
The Ethics Committee meets at least once per year and may be convened additionally in response to ethical concerns arising within EMTC. This is a voluntary role.
Key Responsibilities
- Ethical Oversight: Monitor and support adherence to ethical standards within member associations in accordance with the EMTC Code of Ethics.
- Review and Assessment: Examine ethical concerns, complaints, or reported breaches of conduct involving member associations or their representatives.
- Advisory Role: Provide guidance on ethical dilemmas and issues arising in professional practice.
- Recommendations and Actions: Propose appropriate responses to ethical violations, including mediation, corrective measures, or further procedures where necessary.
- Policy Development: Contribute to the development, review, and revision of ethical guidelines, policies, and professional standards within EMTC.
- Confidentiality and Integrity: Handle all matters with discretion, impartiality, and a high standard of professional integrity.
Qualifications and Skills
- Demonstrated experience in music therapy with a strong ethical and professional foundation.
- In-depth knowledge of ethical principles, professional standards, and relevant legal frameworks.
- Experience in ethics committees, mediation, or professional regulation is desirable.
- Strong analytical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to address sensitive issues with discretion and impartiality.
- Commitment to the mission and values of the EMTC.
