I have been a music therapist since 2000. My main field of work is with children and young people with various dysfunctions and developmental difficulties and music therapy supporting the emotional growth of pre-schoolers. I currently work at the University of Lower Silesia in Wrocław and at the day rehabilitation centre and at the kindergarten.

The Music Academy in Wrocław was the first center of music therapy in Poland. Here, in 1996, the Polish Association of Music Therapists was founded. The Polish Music Therapy Association collaborates closely with the Music Therapy Department of Music Academy in Wrocław. The Polish Association of Music Therapists, with its headquarters at the Music Academy in Wrocław, represents interests of the majority of Polish music therapists of various orientations, streams, and fields of activity. The Polish Music Therapests Association in Wrocław- was founded in 1996. The Association has 100 members, professional music therapists. The Association collaborates with the Music Therapy Division of the Music Academy in areas of teaching and research. The result of this collaboration is, among other things, the academic journal “Polish Music Therapy” published since 2002 as a quarterly.
Current goals and direction for activity:
- setting up standards for music therapists professional formation in Poland,
- working on the bill concerning the profession of music therapists,
- working on the MT certificate system for professional music therapists,
- organizing VII International Music Therapy Forum on 16-17 October 2014 at the Karol Lipiński Music Academy in Wrocław.
In May 2009, the Board of Polish Music Therapists Association in Wrocław appointed the National Council, which will take care of the bill concerning the Profession of the Music Therapist and will present this bill at the Ministry of Labour. This project has been presented in the parliament and is waiting for acceptance.
In Poland there are bachelor and master degrees, postgraduate studies in music therapy in Music Academy in Wrocław, bachelor studies in Łódź, Katowice and postgraduate courses in Kraków. There are two music therapy associations in Poland: The Polish Music Therapists Association president Agnieszka Szymajda and Music Therapy Association in Lublin president Krzysztof Stachyra . The Music Therapy Association in Lublin was set up in 2012.
